What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a dental treatment method concerned with ensuring that misaligned teeth are properly positioned on the jawbones and with the diagnosis and treatment of facial irregularities. The main goal is to achieve well-aligned teeth that are in harmony with those on the opposing jaw. Although commonly associated with straightening teeth, modern orthodontics goes beyond its literal meaning — it also addresses lower and mid-face irregularities as part of comprehensive treatment.

How is Orthodontics Treated?

Orthodontic treatment is divided into two types: removable and fixed. Removable treatment involves the use of clear aligners or appliances (also known as retainers) that the patient can insert and remove on their own. This method is commonly used to correct minor crowding or spacing between teeth. In fixed treatment, small components called brackets are bonded to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. These brackets, which can be made of metal or ceramic, are connected by special wires. Through controlled force, the teeth are gradually moved to correct misalignments.

In addition, certain jaw problems can be corrected using external devices such as chin cups and headgear, which help guide the proper alignment of the jaws.

Endodontic Treatment

What is Root Canal Treatment? To understand root canal treatment, it’s important to first know the basic structure of a tooth. A tooth is made up of three main layers from the outside in: enamel, dentin, and pulp.

Implant

A dental implant is a screw-like artificial tooth root designed to replace the root portion of a missing tooth, aiming to restore both chewing function and appearance. It is used to complete the gap left by a missing tooth.
